500,000 Wishes Campaign

The 500,000 Wishes Campaign seeks to reach diverse communities to help make important healthcare decisions before a serious illness. The campaign began in June 2007 as a response to the increasing number of people who require assistance in communicating their healthcare wishes in languages other than English. The 500,000 Wishes Campaign combines the efforts of all supporting organizations in a national initiative to distribute a half-million translated Five Wishes advance directives over a 12-month period. The United Health Foundation funded the distribution of the initial 100,000 translated Five Wishes documents.

In addition to Aging with Dignity and the United Health Foundation, the nationwide Call to Action was co-issued by the U.S. Administration on Aging and the American Hospital Association.

St Louis, MO (April 9, 2008) - The Society of Healthcare Consumer Advocacy (SHCA) of the American Hospital Association (AHA) presented its National Healthcare Consumer Advocacy Award to 500,000 Wishes Campaign conducted by Aging with Dignity and The United Health Foundation in recognition of its significant impact on the quality of care for the healthcare consumer in the United States.
