Florida Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy
President Message
FSPR (Florida Society of Patient Representatives) had their annual education day and meeting on Dec. 4th at the FHA Orlando Headquarters. The day's theme was "From the Other Side of the Sheets - the Patient and Family Perspective". The group started the meeting the evening before with a Meet and Greet at the Marriott Courtyard, which was a great way for the members to network with peers. Patient Advocates representing all parts of Florida were there.
On Friday, members heard from speakers on topics including the current state of healthcare in both Florida and the nation, the proposed HCAHPS payment system, patient- and family-centered care, ethical considerations in palliative care and mediation. Information on becoming a certified patient representative (PRC) was shared with the group as well.
Participants were invited to participate in FHA collaboratives of interest to Patient Advocates, and also were invited to share their Patient Advocacy stories for publication in the second volume of stories in the book, The Sky is Falling....So They Called Me, to be published soon by the Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy. All participants went home refreshed, renewed, motivated, and rewarded. The Board members of FSPR provided each participant with door prizes, and major gifts were provided by SHCA and FHA. As the saying goes, '"a pleasant time was had by all!" Please see the photos from the day!
